Resources
Below is a short list of resources that have helped me with creating. If you want to discuss anything, click on the "Contact" tab in the site menu so we can chop it up. I'll add more resources as time goes on. Hope this is helpful.
Afrofuturism
"Afrofuturism in Black Panther" is a great introduction to Afrofuturism during the backdrop of Black Panther's release.
Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation by Octavia Butler and adapted by Damian Duffy and John Jennings is a must read. Octavia Butler is one of the pillars of Afrofuturism. This graphic novel is an excellent entryway into her writing. The second book dropped in April of 2025. Check that out, too.
"The Bridge Between Afrofuturism and Psychology" explores how Afrofuturism, psychology, and art form an adequate foundation for centering Black identity.
Creativity Resources
Scott Snyder's Comic Writing Class has lessons applicable across writing mediums. It costs $7/month for a subscription, and he encourages folks to binge the recorded classes then cancel the subscription. Highly recommended.
For those of you who are serious about your creative careers, here's a link to Creative Genius Law. A former entertainment lawyer put me on. Creative Genius Law will help you strategize around balancing profit, protection, and creative freedom. Good luck to you.
The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron is a tool for any artist, creative, Afrofuturist...really anybody. It's a 12-week course designed for creative recovery or rediscovery. It's situated in practical tools guided by spiritual language that's easy to apply your own sense of religion/spirituality to. A must-read for anyone who takes their joy seriously.
