August Moon Chapter 1 Summary
A Summary of "Moonrise". I wrote this a couple years ago.
Ch. 1
Moonrise
The scene opens with August narration. It’s established that this is a sad ass nigga from the get go, and we see his sadness in his eyes. He has blank eyes, likes to smoke blunts, and Namtaru is summoned when the handle is unsheathed from its place across his heart. August emerges in the moonlight, and he’s been tracking a band of Shadows for three days. He stands and watches the horizon as the rest of the sun sets. He finishes his blunt calmly and is attacked from behind by a Shadow. He backflips over the Shadow and lands under a streetlamp. Other Shadows’ silhouettes can be seen in the moonlight as they surround August. They remark that they know he’s been following them, and that he will die. They ask why he’s tracking them as the Shadow Hunter if they haven’t aided their Caster, and he responds telling them that their existence was meant to end, so he was there to bring it. A battle ensues, and we see August’s proficiency in combat. He’s fast, economical in his movements, and he uses NT disrespectfully (to his enemies and the sword itself). He finishes off the Shadows and melts into the moonlight after acknowledging Fey’s appearance.
The next scene jumps to a heaven piercer, a floating rooftop. Over the vast futuristic fantasy landscape stands Nazanin Raheem, August’s handler. She stands facing the city as her white cape flaps in the wind. She has soft eyes and a look of wonder on her face. August materializes behind her and her face turns to steel. She’s disappointed in how long it took August to track and destroy that band of Shadows, but August is unapologetic. She states that she expects better for his next assignment. The two engage in banter showcasing the awkwardly strained relationship. Before the end of their conversation, NR states that August can have a break the following night, then it’s back to work. August thanks her before he fades into the moonlight once again. NR’s expression falls back to the one she had before, and she remarks that August is so pitiful. She then jumps off the roof, and uses her Technique to repel down the building and swing in through a window on a meeting of two 5th House members and a 12th House member, along with several guards. NR’s eyes are steely but her face is full of rage. She stands epically with the lights and buildings of the city in the background. The men are all deeply afraid of her as she tells them that they have stepped out of line. One of the 5th House members calls her a 10th House dog, and her face deepens in anger before she dashes towards them and the scene changes.
August walks down a dark alley amongst the streets of the city. He puts the shaft of NT into the wall, and the wall opens and August steps into Limbo. Limbo is a dark forrest where Fractured Souls reside; it’s a community of Souls that have given up on the idea of peace. August walks through this eerily beautiful place until he arrives at a festival. A smile slides across his face as he sees different Souls enjoying games, food, and other activities. As he walks through the fun, Fey the Ferryman emerges above him. The festival seemingly stops; all of the FS fall to their knees in worship of Fey. Fey looks at them with a disapproving face, and he remarks how he’s told them he isn’t to be worshipped. A FS remarks that he is the bringer of peace, and that they cannot wait to go into the great rest of Death. August smirks at the FS’s naivety, and he narrates how he brings peace to Souls frequently through his actions. Then he has flashes of all the Shadows he’s sent screaming to Fey, and his face changes as he realizes perhaps he doesn’t bring people to peace.
Fey and August walk through the festival and talk, revealing the father-son dynamic. Fey is flamboyant and funny, making August laugh and smile. August always falls back into his sad state, which Fey tries to bring him out. August and Fey walk to the edge of Limbo, where there is a black space called Abyss. Abyss is the edge of existence, and August puts his hand out into Abyss, watching as his hand ceases to exist. He pulls his arm back and watches his hand materialize. August talks to Fey about how he always thinks about what it’d be like to be nothing, rather than feel nothing. Fey remarks that it may be akin to death, or something else entirely. August shakes his head. Suddenly, his eyes shine blue, and he’s being called by NR. Fey lets August get on his boat (there’s no moonlight for August to travel through), and they teleport to NR’s position.
The scene of the room NR repelled in is hectic; there are splattered and beaten bodies lying throughout the room, and NR is sitting patiently on the table as she rings blood from her cape. Fey disappears. August looks around the room and sees the dead 5th and 12th House members. He looks at NR with a puzzled look. “We have your next assignment.” The end.
So, Wix has an AI that randomly wrote this shit below after I pasted the summary above. I thought it was cool so I'm keeping it. Note: I only support equitably created AI.
August Moon VO
Light is the opposite of dark. The sun is the opposite of the moon. Life is the opposite of death.
These are things most people know. But there’s always more to the dark than an uneasy feeling. That’s me.
August begins to emerge as the sun sets, and we see him materializing in the darkness. He stares at the horizon as the rest of the light begins to fade away.
And with me comes more dark.
He calmly puts out his blunt and is then suddenly attacked by a powerful Shadow from behind. The Shadow slices just where August was, but August managed to leap over the attack and land under the light of a nearby streetlight. Many other Shadows can be seen emerging from the dark as they converge on August’s position.
The panel cuts to August’s eyes as we see a blue light in his irises. The panel pulls away and we see that he has summoned Namtaru. August is unphased as the Shadows charge him. In epic fashion, he easily dispatches the first four Shadows. The others retreat slightly. Two step forward, and these Shadows look like people fully. They smile evilly.
Shadow 1
Shadow Hunter…you reek of emptiness. Are you sure you’re not already dead? Hahahaha!
The other Shadows laugh.
Shadow 2
Why hunt us? We have not harmed anyone. We are not slaves.
August surveys the Shadows. He stabs NT into the ground and pulls out another blunt to light. He puffs smoke and looks at the talking Shadows.
August
I exist with a purpose. That purpose is your end. All there is, is your end.
Before anything else happens, August kicks NT into Shadow 1, blitzes Shadow 2 and throws him into some other Shadows. August dispatches the remaining Shadows with efficient movements. He calls NT to him and uses it to finish off a few stragglers.
Shadow 2
Why do you kill us so mercilessly? We just wanted to escape our Caster…
August
Oh, please. You were dead long ago.
August slashes Shadow 2 in half, then sheathes NT. As he walks away, he looks up and sees Fey the Ferryman. They nod at each other as August disappears into the moonlight.
Nazanin Raheem stands patiently atop a beautiful heaven piercer. The moonlight shines bright blue for a moment before August appears on the rooftop with her. She checks her watch and looks at him with contempt.
Nazanin
It took you three days to find a group of twelve Shadows. That’s unacceptable, August.
August
Hits blunt.
It won’t happen again.
